I think I’m on the streak I could feel coming.
I finished Lahiri and read Paradise by Abdulrazak Gurnah next. Paradise is an interesting read. It’s set at a time when colonialism is just starting to spread in some parts of Eastern Africa, just before WW1. It was an education but could someties feel old in a way I still can’t explain.
Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland was amazing. I loved how she did a brilliant job of telling stories from different times and through the eyes of different characters. Now that I think about it, it reminds me of A Fine Balance but it may just be me folding all the books I have read set in India into categories and representative samples.
I’m now reading Abigail Arunga’s Akello. I haven’t read poetry in a while but I’m intrigued by this. That and the author gave me the copy so I have a friendly duty of sorts to dig in.
